Movie Trailer - Spirits of Vengeance
Finally I finished the trailer of the movie, it took a while because I couldn't find a music that fits the whole theme, at last I took a few music and mashup together, it turns out better than I expected. Added a few drum hits makes the trailer more scary. We get many comments on facebook about the trailer, many positive comments we received and I am glad everyone loves it. It makes me more pressured because many people put high expectation on it, hope I can finish the final piece well. Cheers.
Car Hit Test & Blood Recipe II
We had a test shot of car hit scene. Due to our talents had limited free time, we only have limited time for shooting. We need to arrange our shooting time according to each actor.
Blood Recipe II [1.25ltr]
1kg Sugar
8tbs Food Colouring - Red
2tbs Food Colouring - Green
We tried to use the recipe that without cornflour. This time we do not have the shinny problem under lighting. This blood has a low surface tension and so will spread very well. It is editable blood that tastes delicious like a candy. It washes out of costumes.
Keree's masterpiece - Make UP!!
These 2 videos are part of the make up done by Keree, She did an amazing job to make the wounds and cuts so realistic with limited source. I am very happy and proud of the effects of the make up in the film.

Research on horror music
I've took many nights in finding suitable horror theme music for our film include the trailer we are going to produce in first place. It is a challenge to find license free music on web and we needed to get mostly creative commons music, I wanted to make our film more asian type not like those westernise killing-killing type of music. We tried to locate some traditional music to make our film have a different type of horror feelings.
In addition, during the shooting, I tried to create our own sound effects rather than searching for them online. For example, door close sfx, spinning fan sfx, walking sfx, crying sfx and many more. We tried to use our own stuff to create this film as this will be our final production in degree life, I would like to make it good and memorable as well.
This is a great tutorial on creating own sound effects

Makeup Research & Casting
I tried to use gelatine powder to create some injury effects. It can be dissolved in a warm water. The simplest ratio for gelatine is 1:1 with warm water. Gelatine was made from boiling animal collagen, so it is very smelly. This is not suitable for fresh wound, as it is hard to make it smooth like a normal human skin. Also, I cant create a clean and neat wound like commit suicide by cutting one's wrist.
Casting
We have found three talented actors as our main casts.
小乔 Qiao - 张怡 Olivia Zhang |
欣音 Yin - 傅馨莹Cindy Poh |
李光 Guang - 易晓光Chris Yi |
Shopping Trip II & Making Fake Blood
Today, we have a shopping trip in Casuarina. We have bought the ingredients needed for making fake blood and Gelatine powder at bakery section in Coles. Moreover, I also get some cosmetic products for the ghost makeup at Priceline.
We take quite a long time to look for a white cloth/dress in the Casuarina. Finally, we have bought a white cloth in Kmart. It is not the perfect cloth for ghost, but we have no other choice.

Blood Recipe I [1.25ltr]
500 gram Sugar
12 heaped tsb Cornflour
5 tbs Food Colouring - Red
17drops Food Colouring - Green
4 drops Food Colouring - Blue
First, make a sugar syrup. Then dissolve the cornflour with water depending on thickness required. Mix these together until there are no lumps. Bring it to boil and simmer about 30mins. [Stirring frequently] Finally, adding food colouring after cooler. Stir until the colour is even.
All the ingredients are available in supermarkets and is very cheap to buy. The blood has a nice thick consistency. This blood is editable as it was made by natural ingredients. Also, this blood can easily washes out of costumes. While, there is some problems with this recipe. The colour a bit too light and look a bit shinny under the light. Also, It has a short shelf life, which is only last a week in the fridge.

Scripting...
Scripting is one of the hardest part we have in the whole preproduction process. We did 2 weeks of discussion and watched more than 10 horror movies to complete our own script. It was a tough start for us as we all do not have any experiences in scripting. Thanks to Donald help us in giving his ideas on discussion, we tried to put more dialog for the cast because we found out that our script lack of dialog while all are actions. After we finalize our script, Keree created a new and clearer script, it was easy reading and helps our cast a lot in understanding the scene.

Testing of steadycam
Today we tested our steadycam, the effects are easy to be seen while we view it on screen. So lets see.

As we can see, by using steadycam, it helps in minimize the shakiness keeps the video still, it is much better than holding with our own hand.

Monday
making of steadycam
We always wanted to find an easy way to shoot moving shot and dolly is the only thing we could get it from CDU. So we decided to get a steadycam but after look on ebay and some online shopping website, we found out that the real thing is far too expansive, we couldn't afford at all. After get some opinion with Will Tinapple, he told us to make our own stuff.
I did research on making a cheap and useful camera stabilizer, surf through website and I found a great guide of making that. http://littlegreatideas.com/stabilizer/diy/ . It is a great tutorial and the materials we could get them at bunnings. We went for shopping and looking around for hours because it is not easy to find a small parts in a huge store. We shopped for 2 hours and thanks to James Mccormick for driving us there.
After that, we book a time with Peter to get a simple workshop training to make our steadycam. He is so kind to guide us in making and we had a great time of doing some drilling and fixing with our own hands. We took an hour to finish and refine our steadycam and tadaa ... we had a homemade steadycam. He given us a rubber washer to keep our video cam safe on top, and suggest us to put a layer of rubber/string on the holders to increase the grip when holding.

Makeup Research III
The shipping is delayed. We cant get the scar wax on the 1st day shooting. With no wax, we need to find other material to replaced it. I found some useful makeup tutorial videos by BBC blast on Youtube. One of the tutorial were teaching how to using Gelatine powder to make quick effects like burns, wounds, scars, etc. Therefore, we decided to use Gelatine as it is cheap to buy and easily get in food shop. Also, it's one of a flexible materials and easily accessibly for the beginner like me.
